October was a bustling month for the film community in Southeastern North Carolina, as local studios and filmmakers came together to showcase their work, connect, and celebrate the region’s growing creative scene.
In Jacksonville, TENCROW Studios held its inaugural Filmmaker Meetup, inviting local filmmakers, actors, and creatives to network and share their projects. The event featured screenings of short films and clips, providing an opportunity for creators to showcase their work in a supportive environment. Attendees mingled, exchanged ideas, and built connections that aim to strengthen the local film network. This first event marks an exciting milestone for TENCROW, which is committed to growing Jacksonville’s film community and supporting Eastern NC’s creative talents.
In Wilmington, First Cut Productions hosted the First Cut Horror Fest at Jengo’s Playhouse. This festival celebrated horror filmmakers with a lineup of indie films perfect for the Halloween season. Attendees were treated to a variety of short horror films, each bringing a unique take on the genre, and the event highlighted Wilmington’s role as a thriving hub for independent film.
Honeyhead Films also brought the community together with its Local Doc Block screening, which showcased local documentary films and fostered a sense of camaraderie among filmmakers and attendees. This event was well-received, with strong support from the Wilmington community, underscoring the public’s interest in and enthusiasm for authentic storytelling and local perspectives.
Further north in Washington, NC, Haunted Pamlico presented the Carnival of Darkness Film Festival, an event that drew horror fans and filmmakers alike. The festival featured a collection of horror shorts, bringing a thrilling close to the month’s lineup of film events and festivals.
